Trazzler Awarded fbFund Grant

Trazzler was born when we evolved Biz's compelling "virtual teleportation" concept into a Facebook application. Experimenting with the Facebook platform inspired rapid innovation the idea turned from app to full-fledged startup. Recently, Trazzler.com has consumed all of our attention. However, we continue to believe the Facebook platform holds brilliant potential. Today, we're thrilled to announce that our efforts on the Facebook platform will accelerate, thanks to a very significant grant from the fbFund. Later this summer we plan to launch a complete online travel experience within Facebook with full Trazzler.com integration.

People have told me we're crazy—that a tiny startup can't build a sustainable online travel business in such a highly competitive space. Narrow thinking. An agile startup taking advantage of the Facebook platform has super power advantages. Facebook is the place where 90 million people are spending time, communicating, and sharing online. By delivering highly targeted, personalized travel information within the context of Facebook's social environment, our chances of building a substantial user base grow exponentially.

Trazzler's mission is to free people from the distractions and cruft of online travel research. Clear your mind and ask yourself, "Where would I rather be right now?" Then flip through trip pages designed to place you emotionally in a moment with great photography and expert travel writing. Discover travel experiences with a more natural, meandering online experience. Add to your wishlist, explore your travel personality, and take a more inspired approach to online travel—Trazzler is about making it fun.

Here's me talking about all of this at f8: Video.

Hey Adam that's great news - hopefully now Trazzler will be able to pay me for that photo of mine that was used on the Trazzler site without my permission?

You know - one of those photos that you seem to say here are important to Trazzler - what did you say? "... place you emotionally in a moment with great photography ..."

Hi David,

We posted your photo on a 'draft' so you could see it in context. Then we emailed you and asked for your permission to use it. You replied 'no' - so we didn't use it.

Adam that is not correct. When I first received the message from your colleague asking to use my image on Trazzler I checked to see if the page was generally accessible – either via google or via front entry to your site and at that time it was not (indeed there were no pages on the relevant country) – I responded to your colleague a day after his message, asking how much Trazzler was going to pay me for my photo. However after not receiving a response from your colleague I went back later and checked again via the front page of Trazzler and there were a number of pages available on travel in the relevant country, including the page with my image being used (I have a screen capture of this with a Trazzler sign-in name on the page that demonstrates it was not accessed via the link I was initially given). Five days after my initial reply I messaged your colleague again noting that my image was being used – again no response. Three days after again not receiving a response from your colleague I submitted a complaint via Trazzler. After that you contacted me and also about that time my image was replaced by another on the Trazzler website (and the venue was also removed from the list for that country).

It seems to me that my image was used on the publicly accessible parts of the Trazzler web site - without my permission and Trazzler should pay me for the use of my image.

Hi David,

We sent you a draft so you could see your photo in context. The photo was not available through general navigation on our site, but you are correct that this draft was accessible via a precise Google search. We are working on changing this so drafts appear only behind a password.

As I mentioned in private, during the dates your photo was up on a draft page, it received two unique vistors - you and me. Regardless, I am happy to work out a solution that will make you happy. Email me at adam@trazzler.com and I'll do the best I can for you.
